Nervous system overview
The nervous system is a very complex system in the body. It has many, many parts. The nervous system is divided into two main systems, the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system. Its main job is to get the information from the body and send out instructions to the rest of the body.
THREE GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Sensory input
Integration
Motor output
Sensory input
- Receiving stimuli, occurring inside and outside the body
Integration
- Interpretation of sensory input
- Sensory information used to create sensations, memory, thoughts and decision
Motor output
- Response to stimuli by activating the Effector Organs (muscles & glands)
