Assessment of Students comprehension oF gene expression
The activities below are used as assessments of student learning. One file is a SMARTNotebook file which contains quiz questions and the worksheet allows to students to complete the information pertaining to the conditions of the operons. The final activity can be done as a group to demonstrate students ability to identify the various conditions of prokaryotic genetic control.

PIECING THE OPERONS TOGETHER
OBJECTIVE
Students will demonstrate their understanding of the control of gene expression in prokaryotes specifically. In prokaryotes there are genes that can be repressed or induced depending on whether or not an inducer or repressor are present
MATERIALS
Images
PROCEDURE
Students will use the cut outs of the lac and trp operons and will put the pieces together. They will be responsible for predicting whether or not transcription will occur depending on the presence or absence of repressors and inducers
HOW TO ASSESS STUDENTS
Students will be assessed based on their ability to correctly predict the conclusions of the respective scenarios
